Resonance of Cultures

This project focuses on the unifying power of music under the theme “Orient Meets Occident.” For this symphony orchestra project, the Bayreuth Festival of Young Artists is collaborating with the Turkish National Youth Philharmonic Orchestra.

 

Intercultural Encounter in Times of Crisis

Especially in a time of global political tension, when exchange between cultures embroiled in conflict is becoming increasingly difficult, carrying out such a project is an immense but necessary challenge. By involving the German-Turkish Society, we are creating a platform for intercultural encounter, mediation, and exchange that goes far beyond mere orchestral rehearsals. In this way, we also aim to successfully involve the large Muslim community in Upper Franconia in this exchange and allow them to participate in the orchestral and concert culture, which is often perceived as being shaped by Christian European traditions.

 

Artistic Program: “The Magic of Music”

The repertoire builds musical bridges and culminates in a world premiere:

The program includes works by Engelbert Humperdinck, Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Maurice Ravel, and Paul Dukas. The world premiere of a piece by a young, highly talented Turkish composer is the centerpiece of this diverse program.

 

Expanded Resonance Spaces – A Supporting Program

In addition, a repertoire rehearsal of special significance for this orchestra will take place, during which the exclusive collaboration between the Turkish National Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and festival conductor Pablo Heras-Casado will be realized.

The festival management also attaches particular importance to the “Orient Meets Occident” discussion, which will take the form of a moderated conversation with orchestra members on the forward-looking topic “The Future of the European-Influenced Classical Music Market in Non-European Countries.”
