University of Illinois Electric Strings Ensemble

August 1 - 10, 2022

Under the direction of Prof. Rudolf Haken, the University of Illinois Electric Strings Ensemble will offer live performances, seminars, master classes – an immersive experience into the fascinating world of electric strings, from seven-string violins and five-string violas to electric cellos and contrabasses. The range of repertoire offered by this diverse and experienced group of musicians is almost limitless.

For students and audiences everything is on offer – rock, jazz, folk, country, new age, hip hop, classical. Whichever style you prefer, it is possible to execute on electric strings. Students will be encouraged to perform alongside the professionals on electric instruments provided by the festival. Seminars will focus on playing styles, improvisation, history of electric strings, and of course the immense technological possibilities of this evolving art form: live looping, effects, MIDI instruments, and audio production – the possibilities are limitless.

Students interested in the workshop please contact us at . You are welcome to inform us about particular topics and repertoire you’d like to study.
